Mostar now boasts another via ferrata, designed for all enthusiasts of this type of adventure. It is also suitable for more experienced climbers, as well as those with less experience.

Length: 600 m, Elevation Gain: 330 m, Difficulty: B/C, Physical Demand: 4/5, Exposure: 4/5

“Approach this via ferrata slowly, patiently, proudly, and with a full heart, just as we built it.”

Julijana and Robert Mencin, Mostar, October 2024

After building two via ferratas in the city, my husband Robert and I had a burgeoning vision for a third. The idea of building a third via ferrata matured over three years, with the goal of framing the via ferrata offerings on all the hills around Mostar. Of course, a major obstacle was raising financial resources, which is why it took a long time from the initial idea to final realization. However, as always, when there is a strong desire, ideas come to fruition. Thus, in cooperation with the Mostar city administration, we embarked on an almost year-long adventure of preparation and overall work. The construction of the via ferrata itself, 600 meters long with an elevation gain of 330 meters, took 94 days.

This is the only via ferrata that starts from the very center of Mostar. An interesting feature of the via ferrata is that throughout the entire ascent, it offers fantastic views of the city, the famous Old Bridge, and the surrounding area.

nother interesting feature is the three different suspension bridges, one of which is a smaller, shorter replica of the famous “Ladder to Heaven” or “Sky Ladder” bridge from the Donnerkogel via ferrata in Austria; the second bridge is classic, as used on most via ferratas and familiar to most climbing enthusiasts; the third bridge offers a different experience and is called the “Monkey bridge,” where climbers walk on a single cable, like tightrope walkers in a circus, while holding onto an upper cable with their hands. We enjoyed the construction process and are proud of the final result. The via ferrata is equipped with informative panels at the very beginning, detailing all necessary information about it, as well as mandatory equipment. Other informative panels with details, as well as encouraging congratulations and thanks for a successful ascent, are placed on all bridges and at the very end of the via ferrata. Before the end of the climbing section of the via ferrata, a yellow box with a notebook is available for sharing impressions and memories. We wish you many climbing pleasures and wonderful photos along our new Hum Mostar via ferrata!
